Applications:

1.Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease: The use of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) to support patients during acute decompensated respiratory failure secondary to an exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has unequivocal evidence of benefit in terms of reduction in the need for intubation, length of hospital stay and mortality.

2.Reduced risk of infection: The use of NIV instead of mechanical ventilation is associated with a lower risk of nosocomial infections. A study has shown significantly more infectious complications related to the presence of the endotracheal tube.
